THE MOM'S POINT OF VIEW

After reading Rachel's excellent report on Ryan's performance at the Cat Club, Donna Gosling wrote to me with the following comments:

"... Just a quick note to say that a family member found Rachel's review of Ryan's performance at the Cat Club and passed the info on to me. I just wanted to say thank you for such a flattering review. Although I was there that night, it was really neat to see it from someone else's more objective perspective. It was actually pretty exciting reading it. It sort of brought back the thrill of the evening. That was only Ryan's second public performance of his own music. Ryan, I'm afraid, is not very techno friendly and rarely ventures near a computer and so I read it to him today so that he wouldn't miss it. He was very flattered and wishes he was even half as good as Rachel reports.
Anyway, thanks again so much and thank you also to any fans who might see this. Ryan appreciates your support very much.
Oh, as his Mom, I can't help but post a slight correction to Rachel's report. Ryan didn't do any covers that night although he was extremely flattered by any comparisons to Bob Dylan. All the songs performed were written by him. Cool huh?"

I responded, of course, and she wrote me back again:

"... We have started the process to establish an official website for Ryan. As I said, Ryan takes the same approach to computers as probably most of your friends grandparents would. They're strange, suspicious contraptions that he has absolutely no relationship with and so everything happening on computers has been outside his realm of consciousness. He's truly an old soul. It has also taken him quite a while to accept that there are really people who are interested in what he's up to. It will be a wonderful way for him to acknowledge and respond to all the kind, heartfelt comments and good wishes he has gotten from all his fans. He is always a little embarrassed about the fuss but also extremely appreciative and flattered.

I am really proud of Ryan but not because of the successes he has enjoyed but how he has remained the same sweet kid in spite of those successes. He maintains that he meets people all the time who are far more talented than he but who just haven't had the same good fortune. He's got his feet squarely on the ground and has a wonderful heart and those are really his two best qualities although I do get the appeal of those baby blues, the blond hair, the charming smile and all of that.

Thanks again Valerie and I wanted to compliment you on your website. It shows a great attention to detail, and professionalism and a real respect for the performers you showcase."
